Brewing tea

I recently thought that brewing tea is not all that different from brewing coffee. All the important factors are the same: water temeperature, steeping time, and the tea-to-water ratio. It fits well within the BrewRatio app, so I added a tea brewing mode. Usually you see tea bewing instructions using only teaspoon amounts, but if you have a decimal capable scale, you can easily measure the amount accurately.

I am not a tea expert by any means, but I do enjoy a good cup of tea now and then. Mostly I’ve just boiled some water and poured it on top of the teabag or some tea leaves and brewed for some approximately sufficient time before drinking it. And I’ve often thought that tea is quite bitter so it requires lot of honey to smooth it.

As it turns out, I’ve probably been consistently brewing with a bit too hot water and steeping for too long. After familiarizing myself with some common tea brewing guidelines, the taste of my tea has improved a lot! So if you are like me and just wing it when brewing tea, I recommend trying out the recipes that are now included in BrewRatio Tea brewing mode. I’m still trying them out myself and might make tweaks to the recipes as I go along.

Happy brewing!
